I believe in a strengths-based approach in which client and therapist work together to identify areas of growth and develop skills within that area. While I have an eclectic experience and knowledge of evidence based practices, my modality of choice is Internal Family Systems. I have found this modality to be an effective & human approach to therapy.
I have been a clinical social worker for over 15 years and was trained as a trauma specialist by the Ferentz Institute in Baltimore. I am also a level 2 trained IFS Therapist. The majority of my specialized training has been in trauma but I have extensive experience with various mental health disorders and challenges including grief, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Additionally, I have worked in multiple settings, such as treatment foster care, homeless shelters, outpatient mental health clinics, and private practice. I have administered psychosocial assessments for the office of the public defender, and lead wellness groups for human service providers. I have hosted mental health seminars for private companies covering a wide range of topics. Additionally, I taught a seminar at the University of Maryland School of Social Work focusing on issues of oppression, privilege, cultural humility, and an anti-oppression framework in the context of a social work practice. I'm enthusiastic to be expanding my therapeutic approach at Starobin Counseling using neurodiversity-affirming psychotherapy.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy works well for neurodivergent people, including high masking autistic people and people with ADHD because it views behaviors, emotions, and coping strategies as protective “parts” rather than problems to eliminate. This reduces shame and pathologizing. Its structured, parts-based framework can feel concrete and logical, making it easier for individuals who prefer step by step models to understand their internal experiences. IFS emphasizes self-compassion and internal safety, which supports nervous system regulation and helps neurodivergent clients process overwhelm, masking, and sensory or social stress more effectively.
I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland College Park and I received my Masters of Social Work from University of Maryland in Baltimore. The following are my additional professional credentials & certifications:
Licensed Certified Social Worker- Clinical (LCSW-C) in Maryland and Virginia
Board Approved Clinical Social Work Supervisor in Maryland and Virginia
Board Approved Clinical Supervisor for the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists in the state of Maryland
Level 2 trained IFS Therapist
IFS Certification- In progress
Level 2 Advanced Trauma Treatment- The Ferentz Institute
I provide individual therapy for teens, young adults, and adults. I work with neurotypical and neurodivergent clients. While the majority of my training has been trauma-focused, I have treated a wide variety of mental health challenges. To request a free, brief consultation, click “Request an Appointment.”
